Basic Instructor Course #1014 - (April13-17, 2026)
Please note that this Basic Instructor Course is being offered by FBISD PD.
This course is designed to meet the legislative mandate established by TCOLE Rule 221.27, in accordance with Chapter 1701 of the Texas Occupations Code. It provides the basic concepts of instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. The Basic Instructor Course introduces knowledge and resources in adult learning theory, lesson plan development, classroom management, training standards, and instructor liability. Learners will engage in discussions and hands-on activities focused on developing and delivering training aligned with instructional best practices. By the end of the course, learners must demonstrate their ability to create a complete lesson plan and facilitate a clear and object-driven teaching exercise.
Student Pre-Requisites: Two years experience as a peace officer, telecommunicator, or jailer. Alternative to that, you may posses a bachelor’s degree and two years of teaching experience or a graduate degree. Required materials: Laptop with Power Point If you meet the above criteria, seating is limited. No fee for this course. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive 40 hours TCOLE credit and a Basic Instructors Certificate.

This is an 8-hour SFST refresher course designed to improve the administration and overall consistency of the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Battery. Our mission is to decrease alcohol-related crashes, injuries, and deaths by promoting DWI deterrence and enforcement proficiency. *Successful completion of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course is a prerequisite.

This course was designed to cover the bills passed in the 89th legislative session, which affect most peace officers of the State of Texas. This material is a general summary of selected court cases and changes to Texas’ statues that govern the laws enforced along with the administration of law enforcement officers and agencies. Instructors and students must verify all legislative changes and case-law holdings discussed in the instructor resource guide and are responsible for appropriate implementation of these changes. Intoxilyzer Operator School Certification (April 28-30, 2026)
This course is for initial certification of an Intoxilyzer 9000 breath alcohol testing operator. The course includes information that the operator will need to properly operate the Intoxilyzer 9000 breath testing instrument. Course content includes scientific instrument theory, instructions for conducting breath alcohol tests and trouble shooting. A laboratory practical will also be utilized to demonstrate an operator’s proficiency in using the Intoxilyzer 9000 on both non-drinking and drinking (impaired) test subjects. The course is three days with the last day ending at noon. Free of cost. 20 TCOLE Hours

Topics covered include target selection, conducting a proper roadside interview to determine if criminal activity is present, obtaining consent to search, finding wanted fugitives, obscure transportation code violations, identifying criminal devices, organized retail theft, fuel theft, re-encoded credit cards and more. Whereas many police trainings cover general strategies, this class incorporates the intricacies of Texas statutory and case law.
