    This basic investigation course is designed to provide the basic concepts of investigations and to increase the quality of professional investigations. This course introduces the student to the basics of the investigative process, and the student is taught about legal requirements during that process. The students will also learn strategies for crime scene management and time management, along with search warrant and arrest warrant development. The student will be able to understand the role and responsibilities of a police investigator. The student will be able to understand their role as it pertains to crime scene management. The student will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of crime scene protocols. The student will be able to apply investigative techniques in basic case scenarios. The student will be able to understand the rules of evidence. The student will be able to understand the Search & Seizure process. The student will be able to understand their role in crime scene management. The student will be able to understand their role in analyzing evidence. The student will be able to understand the Follow-up Investigation process to include Interviews, records checks, crime reconstruction, crime timeline, case checklist, case notes, digital evidence, proving the element of a crime, and social media investigations. The student will be able to understand their role in Case Management to include Planning for a successful prosecution should be a consideration from the time the case is assigned. Case screening, police/prosecutor relations, case audits, briefings, and investigative plan. The student will be able to understand the Eyewitness Identification—Simultaneous lineup, sequential lineup, live lineup, photo lineup composition, photo lineup admonishment, double blind showing, and one-on-one lineups. Course Objectives In law enforcement today, women experience unique obstacles and barriers when seeking opportunity and promotion within their respective police agencies. Women still meet nearly all the household and family needs while fighting to balance non-traditional employment and the desire to achieve the challenge of new and exciting assignments within the police organization. The number of female peace officers has stagnated in the last twenty years. This course will help the students identify why this is occurring and how to overcome significant barriers. The student will learn to develop leadership traits and apply tools to support a fulfilling career full of opportunity and advancement. Cutting edge leadership principles are discussed in each lesson to prepare for the progression of the student’s career. This course will provide actionable steps students can begin implementing the moment they walk out of class to build on both informal and formal leadership traits and attributes while navigating the path to advancement.     Please note that this Basic Instructor Course is being offered by FBISD PD. This course is designed to meet the legislative mandate established by TCOLE Rule 221.27, in accordance with Chapter 1701 of the Texas Occupations Code. It provides the basic concepts of instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. The Basic Instructor Course introduces knowledge and resources in adult learning theory, lesson plan development, classroom management, training standards, and instructor liability. Learners will engage in discussions and hands-on activities focused on developing and delivering training aligned with instructional best practices. By the end of the course, learners must demonstrate their ability to create a complete lesson plan and facilitate a clear and object-driven teaching exercise. Student Pre-Requisites: Two years experience as a peace officer, telecommunicator, or jailer. Alternative to that, you may posses a bachelor’s degree and two years of teaching experience or a graduate degree. Required materials: Laptop with Power Point  If you meet the above criteria, seating is limited. No fee for this course.     Course Description The Basic Telecommunicator Licensing Course is designed to provide the new telecommunicator with an understanding of the emergency communications environment, and the core competencies in both emergency and non-emergency required by the commission for licensing.
