This course is designed to teach law enforcement professionals the importance of physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness, and to break down the stigma of mental health in the law enforcement profession. First responders are routinely exposed to high stress situations and this course is designed to give law enforcement professionals guidance on how their body and brain work together and against each other. Students will learn to recognize signs, symptoms, and coping mechanisms for common forms of distress associated with their profession. This course addresses how to recognize the signs of suicidal ideation and how to build a suicide prevention plan. Students will learn how to practice resiliency to become more able to withstand the demands of their lives and chosen careers.

TCOLE rule 218.3 states, (a) “Each licensee shall complete the legislatively mandated continuing education in this chapter. Each appointing agency shall allow the licensee the opportunity to complete the legislatively mandated continuing education in this chapter. This section does not limit the number or hours of continuing education an agency may provide. (b) Each training unit (2 years). (1) Peace officers shall complete at least 40 hours of continuing education, to include the corresponding legislative update for that unit. (2) Telecommunicators shall complete at least 20 hours of continuing education. (c) Each training cycle (4 years). (1) Peace officers who have not yet reached intermediate proficiency certification shall complete: Cultural Diversity (3939), Special Investigative Topics (3232), Crisis Intervention (3843) and De-escalation (1849).

This will help victims be more likely to report sexual assault and engage them in the criminal justice system, as well as begin their healing process, improve investigations that lead to the conviction and prosecution of perpetrators, and ultimately make communities a safer place. Students will learn about the prevalence of and barriers to reporting sexual assault, the basic functions of the brain and how trauma may affect the victim’s memory recall and behavior, the benefits of using a trauma-informed approach when conducting and documenting reports of sexual assault, and resources in their community available for sexual assault victims.

Basic Telecommunicators Licensing Course 80hrs- TCOLE #1080 - (November 3-13, 2025)
Pre-requisite each student must hold a valid nationally recognized CPR certification. (Bring copy) The Basic Telecommunicator Licensing Course is designed to provide the new telecommunicator with an understanding of the emergency communications environment, and the core competencies in both emergency and non-emergency required by the commission for licensing. The course consists of 80 hours of curriculum including ten objectives as set forth by the commission. Upon passing the curriculum the student will be eligible to site for the Telecommunicator Licensing exam. DOLCE must be completed and emailed prior to the first day of class.
